Precision. Control. Modern surgery.
Robot-assisted surgery is one of the most advanced techniques in minimally invasive gynecological surgery. It combines the advantages of conventional keyhole surgery with highly precise instrument control, three-dimensional visualization of the surgical field, and exceptional control of complex surgical movements.
Dr. Arsenakis is a certified surgeon for the Intuitive da Vinci® Surgical System and has particular expertise in minimally invasive and robot-assisted gynecological surgery.
How Does da Vinci® Surgery Work?
In robot-assisted surgery, the robotic system does not perform the operation independently. Every movement is controlled by the surgeon.
During the procedure, Dr. Arsenakis operates from a surgical console, controlling highly precise instruments. The system translates the surgeon’s hand movements into precise movements of miniature instruments within the surgical field, allowing delicate and controlled dissection.
High-definition three-dimensional vision with significant magnification allows anatomical structures such as blood vessels, nerves, and tissue planes to be visualized in exceptional detail.
Potential Benefits of Robot-Assisted Surgery
For appropriately selected procedures, robotic surgery may offer several advantages:
- high surgical precision
- excellent visualization through magnified 3D imaging
- highly articulated instruments, even within confined anatomical spaces
- small surgical incisions
- potentially reduced blood loss
- often less postoperative pain
- faster mobilization and recovery
- in many cases, a shorter hospital stay
The most appropriate surgical technique always depends on the condition being treated, the planned procedure, and the individual anatomical circumstances.
Applications in Gynecology
Robot-assisted surgery may be used for a range of gynecological procedures, including:
- hysterectomy
- selected gynecological oncology procedures
- fibroids and complex uterine surgery
- endometriosis
- selected procedures involving the ovaries and fallopian tubes
- certain urogynecological procedures
- complex minimally invasive pelvic surgery
Specialist Surgical Expertise
Dr. Arsenakis received training in robot-assisted surgery during his time at Nuremberg University Hospital. The center is an official Intuitive Proctoring Center for the da Vinci® Surgical System.
As a certified da Vinci® surgeon, he combines his experience in gynecological oncology and minimally invasive surgery with the technological capabilities of robot-assisted surgery.
The decisive factor is not the use of technology itself, but selecting the most medically and surgically appropriate approach for each condition.
Robotic surgery does not mean that a robot performs the operation – it means that advanced technology enhances the precision and control of an experienced surgeon.
